Masala bread upma is one of the famous goto snack in Indian households. Since it is served quick and hot it is usually made as an evening snack for people who get back from work, schools and colleges. Recipe of masala bread is quite simple. All you need is bread( white bread, whole wheat bread or brown bread ) and some vegetables and Indian masalas.

Masala bread upma recipe that I have shown here is very simple as I have used only two vegetables. But, you can play around with your choice of vegetables. You could use beans, cauliflower, cabbage, mushroom and peas or any other vegetable.

This masala bread upma recipe can definitely join your favorite goto recipe club for its easy and flavourful. You can have it just as it is or can add some sides like tomato ketchup or green chutney

Step 1:

To make masala bread upma recipe, start with heating a sause pan/frying pan and add oil to it. Then add jeera and saute till it crackle. Next, add green chilli, ginger,garlic and onion finely chopped. Saute well till the onion turns translucent for about 2 to 4 minutes in medium flame.

Step 2:

Next, add all the vegetables. I have used carrot and capsicum. you can use more vegetable like beans, cauliflower, cabbage, mushroom and peas. Cook the vegetables well. Add capsicum after cooking the masala so that it does not get very mushy.

Step 3:

Add tomatoes to add tangy flavor and gravy texture to the masala. Tomato should cook and be mushy.

Step 4:

Next, add the masala powder. Add red chili powder, black pepper, turmeric and salt. Saute well till the masala is cooked.

Step 5:

Now, add capsicum and mix it all well.

Step 6:

Add water and give it a good mix. When the gravy thickens a little add the bread pieces(take the bread slices and cut them into square pieces). Mix it well till the bread binds to the masala gravy. Then close and cook in low flame for 2 minutes.

After 2 minutes open the lid and give a good stir. Masala bread upma is ready to serve!

Ingredients

  • 6 Sandwich bread
  • 1 tbsp Cumin/jeera
  • 1 tsp Ginger chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic chopped
  • 1 tsp Red chilli powder
  • Pinch of turmeric
  • 1/2 tbsp black pepper powder
  • 1 tbsp Green chilli
  • 2 tbsp Onion
  • 2 tbsp Tomato
  • 2 tbsp carrot
  • 2 tbsp Capsicum

Instructions

  • In a pan add jeera, green chilli, ginger, garlic and onion. Saute well
  • Add carrot and tomato(you can add more vegetables) close and cook so 2 minutes
  • Next, add salt, red chilli, pepper, turmeric powder and mix well
  • Add water to the mixture and mix it well with the masala
  • Finally, add capsicum.
  • Now, add bread and give a nice mix so that the masala sticks to the bread.
  • Close and cook for some time. After 2 minutes, masala bread is ready to serve!
