Momos chutney is a spicy dipping sauce prepared for momos. Momos a popular street food in India with roots from Nepal, Tibet, as well as among Nepalese and Tibetan communities in Bhutan.

Chutney/ sauce for momos is normally made with tomato as the base ingredient. The process is simple, it is made by warming red chilis tomatoes and blending them to make a puree.

This sauce can be used as a dipping for other street food snacks like sandwiches, samosas along with momos.

How to make momos red chutney

Step 1: Tomato chili paste
  • In a bowl add red chili and tomato. Soak in warm water for 30 minutes
Step 2:

After 30 min blend it into a fine paste.

Step 3:
  • Switch on the flame and heat up a saucepan. In the saucepan add oil.
  • Once the oil warms up add chopped ginger and garlic. Saute for few seconds
  • Next, add soy sauce and vinegar. Mix and saute.
Step 4:
  • Now, add the tomato chili paste and mix well
  • Bring the sauce to boil and saute till the sauce thickens.
  • Once the sauce thickens, switch off the flame and serve it with hot momos

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 6 Red chilli
  • 1 Small Tomato
  • 1 tbsp Ginger
  • 1 tbsp Garlic
  • 1 tsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup Water

Instructions

  • In a bowl add red chilli, and tomato. Soak in warm water for 30 minutes
  • After 30 min grind it into a fine paste

Making sauce

  • Switch on the flame and heat up a sauce pan. In the sauce pan add oil.
  • Once the oil warms up add chopped ginger and garlic. Saute for few seconds
  • Next, add soy sauce and vinegar. Mix and saute.
  • Now, add the tomato chilli paste and mix well
  • Bring the sauce to boil and saute till the sauce thickens.
  • Once the sauce thickens, switch off the flame and serve it with hot momos
