  • 1 Bowl Cooked rice
  • 2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/2 tbsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp Urad dal
  • 1 tbsp Chana dal
  • 1/4 tbsp Hing/Aforesaid powder
  • 1 Medium Onion
  • 1 Small Green chili
  • Salt to taste


  • Heat oil in a wide pan.
  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal.
  • Once the mustard seeds start crackling add the onions and green chili.
  • Saute the onion till it turns golden brown color.
  • Add hing/asafoetida powder.
  • Then add salt, cooked/leftover rice and mix well.
  • Your Onion rice is ready to serve
