Mushroom is basically a kind of fungus which has a flavor called umami, one of the five basic taste. It is considered to be a unique flavor which when cooked the texture becomes dense & meaty. This particular flavor makes the recipe rich and unique and along with the spicy masala the dish can be served during special occasions.

Mushroom Biryani is made in many different styles, in this recipe, you will see how to cook using a pressure cooker. The ingredients used are pretty much available in your kitchen like onions, ginger, garlic, green chilies, and tomato and to add flavor to the dish the spices like bay leaf, cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and fennel seeds are used.

While the rice gets a smooth and creamy texture, the mushroom becomes chewy texture when it undergoes the cooking process.

This dish can be served with brinjal gravy or any other gravy along with cucumber raita.

How to cook easy mushroom biryani


Soak the rice for 20 mins and clean the mushroom from all dirt.


Step 1: To make easy easy mushroom biryani


Heat the pressure cooker. In a medium flame add 1 tsp oil and 1 tbsp ghee. Once it is heated add 1 bay leaf, 1 cinnamon, 2 cloves, 2 cardamom, and 1/2 tsp fennel seeds. Fry till the spices release aroma.

Next, add 2 green chilies and saute for a second.

Step 2:

Then add chopped 1 medium onion and saute until it becomes translucent.

Now, add 1/2 tbsp ginger garlic paste. Mix them well and saute for about 2 minutes.

Next, add 1 small tomato and saute well till it turns mushy

Step 4:

Next, add 1/4 cup coriander leaves and 1/4 cup mint leaves. Mix and saute for few seconds.

Step 5:

Then add 1/2 tsp red chili powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp coriander powder, 1/2 garam masala, 1/4 tsp cumin powder. Mix them and saute for a few seconds.

Step 6:

Add 1 tbsp curd and mix well. Next, add 1/2 tsp salt and mix it well.

Saute till all the masala in the mixture is cooked.

Step 7:

Add, mushroom pieces. Mix and saute well in the masala.

Step 8:

Next, add soaked basmati rice along with the 1 cup of water in the mixture.

Close the pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles.

Once it is cooked turn off the flame and allow the pressure to be reduced completely.

Remove the lid and your Mushroom Biryani is ready to be served.
